What changed?
We’ve updated the permissions required when connecting HubSpot with Surfe.
The “Edit property settings” permission is now optional rather than required for the Surfe 1st connection.
This means you can connect Surfe to HubSpot and use the main Surfe features without giving Surfe permission to edit your HubSpot property settings.
What does this mean for you?
When connecting to HubSpot, you may now see additional optional permissions that you can choose to enable.
These permissions are only needed if you want Surfe to create CRM fields in HubSpot.
For example, Surfe may need this permission when creating a CRM field used for LinkedIn URL mapping.
If you don't enable the optional permissions, you can still use Surfe normally. You simply won't be able to create new CRM fields directly through Surfe.
The permissions
The HubSpot connection includes the following permissions:
- App marketplace access — required
- Import — required
- Edit property settings — optional
If you want Surfe to create CRM fields for you, make sure Edit property settings is enabled.
Why am I seeing “This app is already connected to your account”?
If you previously connected Surfe to HubSpot without being asked to select these permissions, you may now see the message:
“This app is already connected to your account.”
This can happen because HubSpot needs to give you the opportunity to review and choose your permissions.
While we understand that seeing this message repeatedly can be frustrating, this new flow allows users to choose their permissions themselves rather than requiring an administrator to grant broader permissions.
This is particularly important for teams where users are not HubSpot administrators, as they can connect Surfe without needing to be promoted to an Admin just to complete the connection.
What if I don't have the required permissions?
If you are unable to enable the required permissions, please contact your HubSpot administrator and ask them to check your user permissions.
You should have the following basic permissions enabled:
- App marketplace access
- Import
-
Access to the relevant CRM objects, including Contacts and Companies
Where to find Hubspot permissions ?
Open HubSpot in a new tab.
Go to Settings → Users & Teams, hover over the relevant user, and click Edit permissions.
When the Manage user access panel appears, click the Choose how to set access dropdown and select either:
- Start with a template
- Start from scratch
Then click Choose permission and search for App marketplace access. Make sure this permission is enabled.
What about “Edit property settings”?
Edit property settings is now an optional permission for the Surfe connection.
You only need to enable it if you want Surfe to create CRM fields/properties in HubSpot, for example when creating a field required for LinkedIn URL mapping.
If you don't need Surfe to create new HubSpot properties, you can leave this permission disabled and continue using Surfe normally.
Make sure the basic CRM permissions are enabled
If you are still experiencing issues connecting or using Surfe, check that the relevant CRM permissions are enabled for the user.
In particular, go to:
Choose permissions → CRM Objects
and make sure the required objects, such as:
- Contacts
- Companies
- Deals
are enabled as appropriate for your Surfe workflow.
Also check CRM Tools → Import and ensure the Import permission is enabled.
If the connection pop-up still appears
If you've enabled the required permissions but still see a message such as “This app is already connected to your account”, this can be part of HubSpot's updated permission flow.
The new setup allows users to choose their permissions themselves rather than requiring broader administrator access just to connect Surfe.
Important
If you or HubSpot make changes to user permissions or account-level configuration, HubSpot may reset or update the permissions available to the user. If this happens, your HubSpot administrator may need to review the permissions again.
